Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is "burn after reading"?
  • It's the most short-lived expiration policy. When you create a paste set to expire on "burn after reading" it will be automatically deleted as soon as someone first opens it.
  • Is it possible to undelete a paste set to "burn after reading" after it's first seen?
  • No. Once as paste has been removed there's no way of bringing it back.
  • How does encryption work?
  • Before submitting the paste to our servers, the encryption key is used to apply AES to all fields. The output from AES is then converted to text using Base64 encoding, and that is uploaded to our servers.
  • What algorithms are used for encrypting pastes?
  • AES-128 in CBC mode and PKCS#7.
  • I forgot the encryption key, can you help me recover it?
  • We cannot. The encryption key is never sent to our servers and the encryption/decryption processes happen on the device you are using. If an encryption key is lost, it will never be possible to recover any pastes it was used on.
